Reconstructive Urology Overview
Reconstructive urology is also known as genitourinary (GU) reconstruction. It is a subspecialty field that specifically manages and treats genitourinary injuries/ailments that affect normal voiding and sexual function. Diseases cared for by reconstructive urologists include urethral strictures and stenoses, ureteral strictures, ureteropelvic junction obstruction, urinary tract fistulas, urinary incontinence, Peyronie’s disease, erectile dysfunction, buried penis, penile cancer, bladder cancer, urethral cancer, genital lymphedema, hidradenitis genital warts or lesions, and gender dysphoria.
